The neurogenetics team at Penn has reached a major milestone: 5,000 patients served!
Since its founding in 2015, the Penn Neurogenetics Program has grown from one genetic counselor to a team of four genetic counselors and a genetic counseling assistant, expanding access to specialized care for patients with complex neurologic conditions.
“Watching the program grow and expand its genetic counseling team is a testament to the persistence and dedication of the clinicians, counselors, and researchers who continued building it into what it is today,” said Pedro Gonzalez-Alegre, MD, PhD, founder and former director of the Penn Neurogenetics Program. “When we launched the Penn Neurogenetics Therapy Center (PNTC) in 2020, our goal was simple: to bring together clinical care, the evolving knowledge on genetics, and innovative research so that patients and families facing complex neurologic conditions could receive answers and access to novel and emerging therapies."
